Welcoming Renny Aprea to the Bocuse d’Or NZ President

We're incredibly excited to welcome Renny Aprea as the new Honorary President of Bocuse d'Or Team New Zealand Board. With a distinguished career spanning over 55 years in the industry, including 26 years as a Senior Patisserie and Culinary Lecturer at AUT University, Renny offers a wealth of knowledge, leadership, and expertise.

Renny's journey in the culinary world is nothing short of inspirational. Trained under French, Italian, German, Swiss, and English Pastry Chefs in New Zealand, Renny has held various esteemed positions across renowned establishments. His illustrious career has included roles like Pastry Chef at Kermedec Restaurant in Auckland, Head Chef at Cleal Catering, and Operations Manager of Culinary Arts at AUT University. Notably, he has served in the high-stakes arena of corporate and hotel functions, overseeing teams of up to 30 professionals and has even owned and managed a delicatessen.

One of the standout aspects of Renny's career has been his commitment to training and mentorship. His multifaceted expertise covers a range of culinary arts including gateaux, breads, biscuits, and plated desserts. He has an astute understanding of both sugar work and chocolate, attributes sharpened by training programs in New Zealand and internationally. But beyond the kitchen, Renny is also a veteran educator, nurturing the next generation of chefs through academic excellence and practical learning experiences.

His professional credentials are further elevated by his extensive involvement in culinary competitions. A Level 6 qualified judge, Renny has acted as a Chief Judge and Technical Panel member in regional, national, and international culinary events, spanning locations from New Zealand to Italy and Fiji. He's also a proud member of the NZ Pastry Team and has coached New Zealand chefs in the Trans-Tasman Professional Chefs Team Event.

Beyond the kitchen and classroom, Renny's interests are as diverse as his career, ranging from house renovation and fishing to pottery.
